BMMC was founded back in the 70’s by members of the Triple S model boat club. The Triple S club still runs today at the Boondall Entertainment centre and caters for Scale, Sail and Steam – hence the Triple S name. Morton Bay model boat club was the only other club in the Brisbane area at the time and conducted meetings at Male’s dam off the Bribie road and also just north of Even Tide on the Sandgate foreshore. Some meetings were also conducted at the Caboolture lakes through the 80’s.
BMMC had the use of a lake on Neilsen’s quarry property off Johnson road at Brendale through the 80’s and later moved to Jess brothers potato farm off Old north road at what is now Warner through the 90’s. The club also had use of one of the lakes on the Boral property at Lawnton through the 90’s. The sale of the Jess brother’s farm to developers meant the club shifted permanently to Boral from 2000 up to 2012. The sale of the Boral property compelled the club to relocate once again from Boral to just across the river to the Amcor mill site. In August 2017, the club once again has had to relocate back to the lake on the Boral property.
Through the mid to late 90’s BMMC had a great association with the Gold Coast club. Many great historic events were shared between both clubs such as the Winter Carnival, Summer Carnival, Autumn Carnival as well as the QLD state titles. A lot of credit must go to Peter Winks of the Gold Coast club in this golden era of model boating in Queensland.

Danny Bull also retired from the committee after serving for over 20 years out of his 27 so far with the club.
